Water Heater Installation and Repair

How does a water heater system work?

A water heater that uses a tank fills its tank with tap water and then heats the water inside of the tank.  The heating process is done either electronically or by burners, which are run off natural gas. The system constantly keeps the water heated, so when a hot water tap is turned on, the water is pre-heated and ready to flow to the tap. The tank is then refilled with tap water to begin the process over again.

What do you do if you think there is a problem?

Per most manufacturers' suggestions, hot water tanks should be replaced every eight (8) to twelve (12) years. If you stick to this schedule, there is a good chance that you will never have a hot water tank problem. However, if notice that your hot water tank is leaking, you should cut the tank's power source (gas or electric), turn off the tank's water supply, and drain the tank. Once this is complete, contact Gerard Plumbing and Heating to solve your problem.
