Air Conditioning Recharging

How does recharging your AC system work?

A professional air conditioning technician will take into account any warning signs that the system is low on refrigerant, and they will test the pressure in the system to gauge the level of refrigerant. If the levels are low, the technician will add refrigerant to the air conditioning system.

Why is air conditioning recharging important?

When we say "recharging your air conditioning system," we are talking about ensuring that you have the proper refrigerant levels in your AC system. Refrigerant is responsible for absorbing heat and an air conditioning system cannot cool your property without it.

What are some warning signs that my AC system is low on refrigerant?

  • Your property is taking a longer time to cool down.
  • The air coming out of your vents does not feel cool.
  • Your electric bill is more expensive than normal.
  • Your air conditioning system is frozen. Low refrigerant can often cause evaporator coils to freeze.  When there is not enough refrigerant running through the evaporator coils to absorb heat, the coils will begin to freeze.

How much does it cost?

A system tune-up appointment will include an assessment if you need an air conditioning recharge. The cost to recharge an AC system will depend on the amount of refrigerant needed.

What do you do if you think there is a problem?

The best thing you can do in this situation is to contact Gerard Plumbing and Heating to schedule an appointment. Even if you don't think there is a problem, it is a good idea to have your air conditioning system checked once per year to help ensure your refrigerant levels don't get to a low level where you lose cooling power, spend more on your electric bill, or cause damage to your system from frozen evaporator coils.
