Gas Leak Repair

How does a gas line system work?

Natural gas companies use large wells and pumps to bring gas to the surface from thousands of feet below the earth. Gas mains then funnel the natural gas into populated areas and your gas utility company runs gas lines to homes via smaller gas pipes. The gas then connects to a gas meter which tells the utility company how much natural gas property is using. From the gas meter, gas lines are redirected to locations within your home that require natural gas such as furnaces, ovens, water heaters, clothes dryers, etc... The gas flows through the entire system because of pressure as it tries to flow to lower-pressure areas. A natural gas system also utilizes multiple shutoff points to ensure gas only flows to areas that it's called upon and to cut off the gas in specific sections in case a leak is detected or a repair is required.

Why are gas leak repairs important?

Gas can be extremely dangerous. Exposure to large amounts of natural gas can cause serious health problems or even death. Natural gas is also extremely flammable, so a leak can lead to a fire if exposed to an open flame. Besides the safety concerns, gas leaks also cause your gas bill to skyrocket. For these reasons, it is extremely important to address a gas leak problem as soon as you suspect something.
