Tips on Keeping Utility Bills Down

1. Most important tip is to keep all appliances clean.
Furnace and Air Condition should have a yearly inspection by qualified technician. By having the units checked every year you will keep the equipment running at top efficiency. Don't block any air vents in the house. This restrict the air flow of your unit, causing the unit to work harder.
This is also a good idea for your refrigerator, (the coils in the back or bottom of the appliance), Attic fans and dryers (make sure the dryer vent is kept clean). Any restriction on these appliances causes the appliance to work harder and demand more energy.

2. Run Ceiling Fans.
By running your ceiling fan as instructed by the MFG you will help to keep the utilities down.

3. Use compact fluorescent lights.
Fluorescent lights generate less heat and use less electricity than incandescent lights.

4. Work with the weather.
By adjusting your thermostat, without sacrificing comfort, by 1 degree you can cut your bills by 3% or more.

5. Use a programmable thermostat
Programmable thermostats will keep the house a constant temperature. Set the thermostat a few degrees (lower in winter, higher in summer), when you are not home to enjoy the comfort.
